Aruba was claimed by the Dutch in 1634. It acquired full internal self-government in 1954. Postage stamps were issued from 1986.

THE POSTAL SERVICE OF ARUBA: On January 1, 1986, the first Aruban stamps were issued. This coincided with the establishment of Aruba's Status Aparte, making Aruba independent from the Netherlands Antilles and an equal member of the Kingdom of Holland.
