MARSHALL ISLANDS Marshall Islands - A German possession from 1885 to 1914 when seized by Japan, the islands were captured by the United States during World War II. They became part of the US Trust Territory in 1947. - Issued stamps 1885 to 1914 as a German possession and by agreement with the United States Postal Service, the islands began issuing their own stamps in 1984.
